Capt Anne E. Hynds – Chief Nurse, Station Hospital, Camp Adair, 1942-1944

Introduction: Capt Anne E. Hynds served her country from 1917-1955. A military nurse, she served in the Philippines, Hawaii and several posts in the U.S. She was one of the first assigned to Camp Adair to establish the Station Hospital there. She had a long and distinguished career as an Army Nurse. Not enough has been said about the women who served as nurses and not enough can be said about them.

Born 3 September 1893, Dandridge, TN.  Died 7 April 1983, San Rafael, CA.  Buried at San Francisco National Cemetery, San Francisco, CA

1941  – Nurse, Langley Field, Newport News, VA.  Rank: 1st Lt

1941 – 1942 – Chief Nurse, Base Hospital, U. S. Army Nurse Corps, MacDill Field, Tampa Army Air Base, Tampa, FL.  Helped established the station hospital and organize the nursing staff.  Rank: 1st Lt

1942 – 1944 – Principal Chief Nurse, Base Hospital, 9th Service Command, SCU 1911, U. S. Army Nurse Corps, Camp Adair, Corvallis, OR.  She was the first nurse assigned to Camp Adair and was responsible for establishing and organizing the nurses there.  She was also the highest ranking female officer at Camp Adair at the time. Rank: 1st Lt, promoted to Capt.

1944 – 1945 – Principal Chief Nurse, Assistant Superintendent, Hoff Army General Hospital, Army Nurse Corps, 9th Service Command, Santa Barbara, CA.  Rank: Capt, promoted to Maj, promoted to Lt Col

1946 – 1955 – Nurse, Superintendent, Letterman Military General Hospital, San Francisco, CA.  Rank: Lt Col.

1955 – Retired.  Rank: Lt Col

Lived in San Rafael, CA.  Resided at the Tamalpais Retirement Residence.
